Just a few kilometers from the Golden Beach and the northeast coast is Panagia, a picturesque mountain village with traditional houses, with stone-tiled roofs, wooden terraces and verandas. The village is landed just below Mount Ipsaron and collects all the mountain springs through a system of fountains and streams. In the evening, the place to be visited is the central square next to the fountains, where there are several authentic tavernas.

The museum is situated in the village Panagia and here you can delve into one of the island’s oldest industries. There are a shop sells oils infused with lavender, orange and tangerine, as well as olive oil-based beauty products and tea made with olive leaves.

The largest monastery on Thassos is a cliff-top convent on the southeast coast. Founded in the 13th century it has a traditional cruciform layout and its most famous relic is the nail that apparently fastened Christ’s right hand to the cross.
